UBOC's operations has a 12,000 PC baseline, spread across 3 major geographic regions and dozens of individual sites. The labor cost associated with manually inventorying and distributing software on this large a scale was prohibitively expensive. UBOC needed an automated solution. Ephibian jointly helped UBOC architect, design, implement, and transition into operations a capability to remotely inventory and distribute software to their locations.
- Realtime, accurate inventory of software components across a 12,000-PC baseline
Remotely distribute software
- Create a uniform baseline
- 3 major geographic regions, many individual sites
- Cost-effective
- Aggressive timelines and schedule deadlines
- Limit impacts on on-going operations
Ephibian's solution was based on IBM’s Tivoli management framework and included Tivoli Software Distribution, Inventory and many customized Perl scripts. We integrated the solution with an underlying Oracle database to track the resulting inventory and software distribution data.

- Up-to-date software inventory across their entire installed PC base
- Automated mechanism to add/remove clients to/from their Inventory database, thus keeping their Inventory accurate in the future
- Automated software distribution
- Automated classification of distribution/installation errors
- Under-budget implementation; met all aggressive schedule constraints
- Cost-effective, supportable solution
- Trained engineers and operations personnel
