Lockheed-Martin, one of the United States leading defense contractors, required an automated solution for distributing software updates to machines throughout dispersed locations. The computing environment includes Sun Solaris servers in multiple Tivoli management regions (TMRs). Lockheed-Martin had in place a plan to easily distribute Tivoli software to the servers in these dispersed TMRs, but needed an automated procedure for distributing other software throughout the computing environment.

Ephibian engineers architected and prototyped a fully automated solution for software distributions. Our solution included scripts that automatically built profile managers, file package profiles (including nested file package profiles), assigned subscribers, checked that the Tivoli daemon was running on these subscribers, pre-viewed distributions, and distributed to subscribers. In addition before, after, removal and commit (BARC) programs were integrated into theprofile creation and distribution process.
Lockheed-Martin has since continued to enhance their software distribution strategy and pursue the implementation of other Tivoli products, this is in part due to the success of our efforts for them.
