3C Communications S.A. is an international company that provides real-time credit card authorization and batch Invoice File clearing services for hotels, restaurants, parking garages, internet kiosks and pay telephones in over 20 countries across Europe.
3C is continually expanding their business into new countries and working with new banks. They also have to keep up with constantly changing bank interface specifications, conversion to the Euro, the introduction of chip cards, e-commerce and Internet transactions, customer requests for new features, and working with new partners.
New features and code must be developed for 3C systems and software to meet their needs and keep expanding their business.•

As 3C receives requests for new features or develops requirements for system changes, they are passed to the Ephibian developers. Ephibian evaluates the request and produces a detailed requirements specification for the work, along with a proposed schedule. If all parties involved agree to the requirements, work may begin, subject to other higher priority tasks. Some of the solutions Ephibian has provided under our maintenance contract with 3C include:•
- Revision of all existing code on the main 3C VMS support servers for the Year 2000 change-over.
- Ported entire VMS baseline to new Linux environment, to reduce overall operating cost.
- Revision of all authorization and invoicing code to support conversion of select countries to the Euro currency.
- New interfaces, including real-time credit card authorizations and batch invoices, to new banks and countries. This includes Merita bank in Finland, SERMEPA bank in Spain, Barclays and Lloyds of London in the UK, Bank of Poland, Bank of Qatar, Alpha bank in Greece, and many others. This effort is continually on-going.
- Updating existing bank interfaces to comply with changing specifications including Diner’s Club Global and the bank of Switzerland.
- Extensive modifications to the customer-side terminal software to support proprietary parking garage applications such as ZEAG, Designa, and SkiData in the UK and other countries.
- Specialized customer-side terminal software for large hotel chains such as Scandic Hotels to support multiple locations with a single machine over a TCP/IP WAN.
- Support for DOS based credit card payphone software updates and fixes. •
